One of the best loved tourist attractions in London is going to host the premier of the new season of Game of Thrones. The Tower of London, actually a collection of towers and other buildings, is a perfect place for the screening of the notoriously bloodthirsty TV show. There is a Bloody Tower, after all, and it is apparently one of the most haunted places in Britain because of all the people who were imprisoned and executed at the tower, including Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes.

The premier location is particularly apt as many see similarities between the Wars of the Roses and the plot of Game of Thrones series.

The Tower and the TV show also have similarities in terms of animals. Since the middle ages, the tower has been home to some incredibly exotic animals, such as elephants and a polar bear. However no records of dragons staying at the Tower have been found. Ravens which feature prominently in Game of Thrones, have always been at the Tower and are shrouded in superstition.

Coming to think of it, visiting the Tower of London might even be more exciting than the HBO series. All the stories you will learn as you wander around are just as thrilling as TV storylines (the Princes in the Tower, a whole load of beheadings, a gate from the Thames to take traitors into the tower, the list goes on…) and even more thrillingly, they are actually real!

We’ll take London and the UK over King’s Landing and Westeros any day. Though we still wish we could own a dragon.
