Covent Garden

KidRated’s Covent Garden Top Tips:

  • Check out all the great things in walking distance of Covent Garden
  • Get off at Holborn, Leicester Square or Charing Cross to avoid lift queues at Covent Garden
  • Beware the human statues!

Established in 1654 as a fruit and veg market, Covent Garden’s beautiful Italian Piazza stands in the centre of one of London’s most visited and vibrant shopping areas. Whether you’re looking for free street theatre or performance art, shopping, restaurants or simply to grab a coffee and ice cream, it’s the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon.

Surrounding the fantastic central square, Covent Garden is also home to popular entertainment facilities such as the Royal Opera House, the London Transport Museum, and Drury Lane’s Theatre Royal. Further details regarding events at individual venues may be found on their websites.

There are plenty of restaurants in the area, so it’s well worth having a look at what’s on offer nearby before you go and save yourself the headache of having to make a choice on the move.

Make sure you check out the market in the square for a huge array of traditional, handmade and unique arts and crafts, and bag yourself a souvenir.
