Fourth time of seeing this hilarious play and it still has me in stitches. Kids from 10 up will love the chaos of the performance and the silliness of the cast.

The play that does everything right by keeping the audience laughing throughout. Such a joyful night, great performances and a perfect play for all ages. Take your kids, take your granny, take anyone!

18 November 2021

A fabulously daft and fun evening. Kids' opinions: "So hilarious, it just got funnier and funnier" - Lily (13) "Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. They're crazy!" - Tom (10) Quite noisy with stage effects and shouting, but beautifully done and very funny. General opinion was 10/10.

About The Play That Goes Wrong

The Play That Goes Wrong is a laugh-out-loud chaos-fest where everything that can go wrong on stage… does. With collapsing sets, clumsy actors and perfect comic timing, it’s a hit with kids, teens and theatre-shy grown-ups. Fast, funny and brilliantly silly—ideal for a first or favourite family show.

Top tip from the KidRated team:

Keep your eyes peeled; the laughs start before the curtain even goes up!

Quick Inspiration

Is The Play That Goes Wrong suitable for kids?

Yes, it’s officially 8+ and that’s about right. Kids aged 8 and up will love the slapstick chaos. It’s family-friendly, clean, and brilliantly daft – even the most screen-obsessed kids will be giggling.

Is it scary or inappropriate?

Not at all. It’s all good clean fun with physical gags and funny accidents, but there’s no rude humour or scary bits, just a lot of “how did they do that!?” moments.

Is it easy to understand?

Completely. The humour is universal and physical, so even kids who find plays “boring” will love the non-stop mishaps and visual gags. No deep themes, just big belly laughs.

What’s the best bit for kids?

Honestly, all of it. The collapsing set, the missed cues, the props that fail spectacularly – it’s like a live-action cartoon.

Where is it showing?

At the Duchess Theatre in the West End, tucked behind Covent Garden, near Somerset House, so easy to reach via tube or bus.

How long is The Play That Goes Wrong?

It runs just under two hours, including an interval – ideal for younger theatregoers or school-night outings.

Is it a good first theatre show?

Perfect, It’s short, hilarious, and designed to be loved by people who don’t normally love theatre. Ideal for turning young sceptics into theatre fans.

What’s nearby to eat or visit?

You’re close to the Strand, Covent Garden and Somerset House – loads of options for lunch, dinner, or a wander around before or after.
