Lee Valley VeloPark FAQs

  1. What age is suitable for VeloBalance sessions?
VeloBalance is designed for children aged 2+, focusing on building balance and confidence on two wheels.
  2. Can my child try BMX riding at Lee Valley VeloPark?
Children aged 7 and above can participate in BMX taster sessions, learning the basics on a professional track.
  3. Do we need to bring our own bikes?
Not necessarily. The VeloPark offers bike and helmet rentals for most activities. However, you’re welcome to bring your own equipment if it meets safety standards.
  4. Are there activities suitable for beginners?
From VeloBalance to introductory track cycling sessions, there are plenty of options for those new to cycling.
  5. Do you need to book in advance for Lee Valley VeloPark?
Yes – booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially during weekends, school holidays, and for coached sessions (like BMX tasters or track cycling).
  6. What should we wear?
It depends on the activity, but think sporty and comfy. Wear clothes you can move in, so leggings, joggers, trainers. Track cycling, BMX or mountain biking? Long sleeves and long trousers are required. Helmets and gear are provided, but feel free to bring your own if it meets their standards.

Top tip: gloves can be handy (literally) and avoid sore fingers gripping handlebars all session.

  1. Is everything inside?
Not quite. The Velodrome is inside (the big swooshy Olympic one). The BMX track, mountain biking trails, and road circuit are outside.
So pack accordingly. Sunshine = sun cream. Clouds = layers. Rain = waterproofs.
  2. Is there a café on-site?
Yes, there’s a café offering a range of snacks and drinks to ensure everyone’s energised.
  3. Is Lee Valley VeloPark accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes, it’s committed to being inclusive. There are a variety of inclusive cycling sessions using specially adapted bikes – trikes, tandems, handcycles, and more. Whether your child has additional needs or you’re looking for a supported family activity, there are options to suit.
The venue is step-free, with accessible toilets, parking, and changing facilities. The staff are brilliant; friendly, trained, and happy to offer support if needed.
