About The Mousetrap
The Mousetrap is the world’s longest-running play — and there’s a reason families still flock to see it. Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit brings snowy suspense, clever plotting and proper old-fashioned theatre magic to the West End.
Kids who love murder mysteries, riddles or escape rooms will be hooked from the moment the lights go down. The setting is cosy, the characters are colourful, and the “don’t spoil it!” twist remains one of London theatre’s greatest secrets.
It’s a brilliant introduction to plays for older kids and teens, and a perfect night out for families who love a puzzle.
Top tip from the KidRated team:
Ask the kids to write down who they think the culprit is at the interval — then compare predictions at the end!
Update
Now celebrating its 75th anniversary, Agatha Christie’s record-breaking The Mousetrap is extending its West End run to January 2027 and will embark on a major UK and Ireland tour from September 2026.
Best for 10+ — the story is gripping rather than scary, but younger children may find the slow-burn tension tricky.
Very mild. Think “cosy mystery”, not horror. No jump scares, just classic Christie suspense.
Great for mystery-minded tweens, teens and grandparents who love a proper old-school play.
Not really — the clues are clear, the dialogue is crisp, and kids who enjoy detective stories will follow easily.

Cambridge Theatre in Seven Dials. So a stone’s throw from Covent Garden and Chinatown.
