About Chessington World of Adventures
Chessington World of Adventures is the ultimate all-in-one day out for families craving thrills, animals, and splash-happy fun. Located just outside London, it’s part theme park, part zoo, part SEA LIFE centre, and 100% guaranteed to wear the kids out.
You’ve got adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters like Vampire and Mandrill Mayhem for your brave tweens and teens, gentler rides like the Gruffalo River Ride Adventure for younger explorers, plus a zoo packed with lions, monkeys, penguins and more. Need a breather? Catch a live show, explore the SEA LIFE tanks, or hit the soft play zones.
It’s brilliantly designed for mixed-age families, so no one gets left out – not even grumpy grown-ups. And don’t forget the splash areas when the sun’s out – just pack a towel or two and embrace the chaos.
Top tip from the KidRated team
Download the Chessington app before you go – it’s a lifesaver for queue times and show schedules. And visit our Merlin page for offers on passes and tickets.
Is Chessington World of Adventures good for kids of all ages?
Yes. It’s perfect for families. There are big thrill rides for brave tweens and teens, gentler rides for under-8s, and soft play or animal encounters for toddlers. No one’s left out, even grown-ups can scream a bit.
What are the best rides for young children at Chessington?
The Gruffalo River Ride, Room on the Broom, Adventure Tree Carousel, and Jungle Rangers are all great for little ones. Low height limits and big fun without the whiplash
What should we wear to Chessington World of Adventures?
Comfy clothes, weather-appropriate layers, and shoes you can run after your kids in. Bring swimwear or spare clothes for splash zones and maybe a poncho for water rides (or embrace the soak!).
Do you need to book Chessington in advance?
Yes. Tickets are cheaper online and can sell out in peak times (school hols, sunny weekends, etc.). Book early and dodge the pricey on-the-gate queue.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes, you can bring a picnic. There are also food stalls, restaurants, and snack spots inside, but having backup snacks = fewer meltdowns in queues.
Is Chessington World of Adventures good in the rain?
Some rides are outdoors, but there’s loads to do undercover too like the SEA LIFE Centre, indoor shows, and soft play. Just pack waterproofs and go full British.
Is Chessington suitable for children with disabilities or additional needs?
Yes. There’s an Accessibility Guide, Ride Access Pass, step-free access in most areas, and designated quiet spaces. The staff are trained and helpful, just speak to Guest Services when you arrive.
Is there parking at Chessington?
Yes, plenty of it. Parking costs extra (unless included in your ticket). There’s also express parking closer to the entrance if you want to save those little legs.
Are there places to sit and rest during the day?
Definitely. There are benches, picnic spots, and quieter animal areas where you can chill between the thrill rides. Don’t underestimate the joy of a coffee and meerkat moment.
Can we stay overnight at Chessington?
Yes. There’s a hotel inside the park (with themed rooms!), plus glamping and nearby family-friendly stays. It’s a great option if you want two days of fun without the travel stress.

Recently took my friend's 4 year and was a little disappointed by how tired everything looked. Disney-like queues as well even for the rides for the little ones. Slightly disappointing form an adult point of view but the 4 year old loved it.
