About Lee Valley White Water Centre
Looking for an unforgettable family day out? Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross is the perfect spot for kids, teens, and thrill-seeking parents. Just outside London, this Olympic venue (think London 2012) offers white water rafting, kayaking, paddleboarding and even an inflatable obstacle course.
Fancy something calmer. Open water swimming and flatwater paddling are great fun too. It’s safe, professionally run, and brilliant for adventurous families. There’s a fab café for refuelling and loads of space to dry off afterwards. Whether you’re tackling the rapids together or cheering from the bank, it’s a top-rated day out just outside London. Expect soaked socks, big laughs, and memories to last longer than their post-ride sugar high.
Top tip from the KidRated team:
Bring towels, snacks, and a waterproof sense of humour. Best for: confident swimmers aged 8+ (younger kids can still enjoy the vibe and café).
Yes. Loads of the activities are designed with families in mind. Some water sports have age and height limits (usually 8+), but younger ones will still love splashing in the lake or cheering from the sidelines.
You’ll find everything from white water rafting and paddleboarding to kayaking and open water swimming. There’s even an inflatable obstacle course that’s basically Wipeout for kids. Just bring towels.
Bring swimwear, old trainers (they’ll get wet!), towels, sun cream, water bottles, a change of clothes and maybe a snack stash for post-splash munchies.
Yes, the calm lake area is great for paddling and dipping toes. While the big rides are for older kids, younger ones can still get involved or enjoy the café and parkland nearby.
You can. Lee Valley is one of the few places near London offering real-deal white water rafting. It’s the perfect mix of scary-fun and safe, ideal for adrenaline-seeking teens.
Yes, especially for weekends and school holidays. Activities can fill up fast, so it’s best to plan ahead and book online to avoid any disappointed paddlers.
Most sessions last between 90 minutes and 2 hours, including safety briefings. That’s plenty of time for excitement without everyone getting hangry. You can also hang out afterwards by the lake or in the café.
Yes. Expert instructors will guide you through everything, so even if it’s your first time, you’ll be safe, and probably soaked.
The Terrace Bar & Café serves up hot food, drinks, and snacks, ideal for drying off and refuelling. Plus, there’s outdoor seating with views of the action.
Yes. It’s pay and display, but easy and close to all the action.
