The London Zoo is massive and quite busy, but it's a great trip for the kids. At £35 for adults and £23 for kids, it's not an inexpensive day out, but caring for thousands of animals isn't either. See the painted dogs, komodo dragon, and giraffe pen.

Ah we love London Zoo! The Harry Potter reptile house is a firm favourite. It looks pricey but we’ve honestly never spent less than a whole day there, so it ends up being VFM and a real treat. It’s HUGE btw.

The membership is well worth it if you think you might go more than a couple of times a year.... takes the pressure off and you can just pop in for a couple of hours......

About London Zoo

If your kids go wild for wildlife, London Zoo is a must. Right in the heart of Regent’s Park, this world-famous zoo is home to over 14,000 animals – from tiny leafcutter ants to mighty tigers. It’s not just about looking – there are animal talks, feedings, and walk-through enclosures that bring you face-to-face with the action.

Little ones will love the farmyard and splash zone, teens get a kick out of the Komodo dragons and the insect house (creepy but cool), and grandparents can enjoy the peaceful gardens and shady benches. The whole place is pram and wheelchair-friendly, and there are loads of places to grab snacks or a sit-down lunch.

Top tip from the KidRated Team:

Bring a refillable bottle – there are fountains around the zoo, and it’s a long day on your feet!

Is it good for all ages?

Yes! There’s something for toddlers, teens and everyone in between. Under-3s go free too.

What should we look out for?

Don’t miss Penguin Beach, the Rainforest Life walkthrough, or the lion enclosure – it’s like being on safari in central London.

Can we bring a picnic?

Absolutely. There are picnic spots throughout the zoo, plus cafés and kiosks if you fancy something hot.

Is it buggy/wheelchair/SEN friendly?

Yes – most areas are step-free, there are accessible toilets, and they offer sensory maps and quiet spaces for neurodiverse visitors.

What’s close by to visit?

You’re right in Regent’s Park, so combine with the boating lake or a walk through the rose gardens. Madame Tussauds and Camden Market are also nearby.

Will older kids and teens enjoy the zoo?

Definitely. From watching big cats prowl to walking through the rainforest or checking out the new exhibits, there’s loads to impress even the coolest teen. The animal talks, feeding times, and walk-through enclosures add extra “wow” – and yes, it’s very selfie-friendly too.

Is there a good spot for a selfie?

Oh yes – loads! Snap a classic selfie by the Penguin Pool or head into the Land of the Lions for a dramatic backdrop. The giant animal murals near the main entrance are great too, especially if you’re after something fun for your socials.

What’s the nearest tube to London Zoo?

Camden Town (Northern Line) is closest – about a 15-minute walk. Regent’s Park (Bakerloo Line) is a bit further but quieter and scenic.
