About Mamma Mia!

If you’ve got a teen who loves a bop and a grandparent who secretly belts out ABBA in the car, Mamma Mia! is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Set on a sun-drenched Greek island, this feel-good musical tells the story of Sophie, a young woman on the eve of her wedding, trying to find out who her real dad is – without letting her mum find out. Cue catchy tunes, outrageous dance moves, and a lot of laughs. The production is slick, the costumes are glittery, and the atmosphere is pure joy. Whether you’re 9 or 90, you’ll be tapping your feet and humming Dancing Queen all the way home. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll know how good it is!

Is Mamma Mia! suitable for kids and teens?

Definitely for tweens and teens who enjoy music and comedy. There’s some innuendo and a few cheeky moments, but nothing explicit. Think of it as a PG-12 – best for kids who are emotionally ready for rom-com levels of relationship talk.

Will younger kids enjoy it?

The music will keep them happy, but younger children might get a bit fidgety during the dialogue-heavy bits. If your little one knows ABBA already, they’ll love it, if not, bring snacks and hope for the best.

How long is the show?

Around 2 hours 35 minutes, including interval. You’ll be out in time to catch a reasonable train home or grab late-night pizza nearby.

Is it scary, loud or overwhelming?

Not at all. It’s upbeat, playful and full of colour. A great first West End show.

Is the seating comfy and accessible?

Yes, but like many older West End venues, legroom can be tight. Book aisle seats if you can, especially for taller kids or grandparents.

What should we wear?

Anything goes, but if you fancy a bit of sparkle, now’s your chance. Expect a few feather boas in the audience…

Where’s the theatre and what’s nearby?

It’s at the Novello Theatre, right near Covent Garden and Somerset House. Loads of great family food options around – Flat Iron, Wahaca, or the iconic Rules if you’re going posh.
