About The Lion King

The Lion King roars to life on the West End stage with jaw-dropping puppetry, spectacular costumes, and all the songs you’ve hummed since childhood. Based on the iconic Disney film, it follows Simba’s journey from cub to king, with emotional highs, heartwarming moments and lots of Hakuna Matata energy. The opening number alone will take your breath away. Whether your kids have seen the film a hundred times or not at all, the live version adds a wow-factor you’ll talk about all the way home. A total crowd-pleaser for first-time theatregoers and musical-loving families alike.

Is The Lion King suitable for all ages?

Yes – it’s officially recommended for ages 6+, but younger children who are used to cinema or theatre will enjoy it too. It’s colourful, musical, and full of energy – a brilliant first West End experience.

Is it scary for children?

There are a couple of dramatic scenes – the wildebeest stampede and Scar’s villainy – but it’s never too intense. It’s Disney-level drama: exciting, emotional, but ultimately reassuring.

Is it a good option for teens?

Yes. The music is powerful, the costumes are next-level, and the story has enough drama to keep older kids hooked. It’s not just for little ones-– it’s a show for all generations.

Is it easy to follow?

Absolutely. The storyline mirrors the film, and it’s clearly told through stunning visuals and memorable songs. Even if your child doesn’t know the movie, they’ll easily follow the action.

Is The Lion King visually impressive?

Incredibly. The use of masks, giant puppets and clever staging is unlike anything else in the West End. Kids and grandparents alike will be wowed – it’s truly a feast for the eyes.

How long is The Lion King?

It runs for about 2.5 hours, including an interval – enough time to feel like a special night out, but not so long it drags for younger audience members.

Do we need to dress up?

No pressure, smart casual is perfectly fine. But lots of families make it a special outing and dress up a little, especially for birthdays or celebrations.

What’s nearby to eat or explore?

The Lyceum Theatre is right by Covent Garden, meaning tons of pre-theatre meal options – from family-friendly chains to cool street food markets. Plus, you’ve got shops and buskers to keep everyone entertained.

Are the facilities family-friendly?

Yes – expect clean loos, booster cushions, and helpful ushers. It’s a large theatre, so arrive early to get settled, especially if you’re bringing younger children.
