About Uber Boat by Thames Clippers

Who says getting around London has to be stressful? Thames Clippers are sleek, speedy catamarans that whizz up and down the Thames – and they’re a total win for families. You can use them to reach loads of top attractions (Tower of London, London Eye, Greenwich…), or just hop on for the ride. With indoor and outdoor seating, buggy-friendly ramps, loos on board, and contactless payment, it’s a scenic, stress-free way to travel. Most boats have snacks and drinks available, and little ones love the novelty of being on the river. It’s like a mini cruise without the mega price tag.

Top tip from the KidRated team:

For the best views (and the wind-in-your-hair vibe), head to the open-air back deck. Bonus points if you snap a selfie as you glide under Tower Bridge!

Is the Uber boat good for kids?

Totally. It feels like an adventure, even if you’re just heading to an attraction. Toddlers love the motion, primary-schoolers love spotting landmarks, and even teens get swept up by the skyline.

Can we get family or day tickets?

You can buy River Roamer day passes (unlimited rides) which are brilliant for sightseeing. Under 5s go free, and there are family ticket options available – or just tap in and out with contactless or Oyster for pay-as-you-go fares.

Which stops are best for families?

● London Eye (Waterloo Pier) – near SEA LIFE, Shrek’s Adventure and Southbank
● Tower Pier – for Tower of London and Tower Bridge
● Greenwich Pier – for Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory and Greenwich Park
● Bankside – perfect for Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe
● North Greenwich – for the IFS Cloud Cable Car and The O2

What Thames Clipper route should we try first?

London Eye to Greenwich is a top pick – you’ll see loads, the journey’s just the right length, and there’s lots to do at both ends.

Is it expensive?

Fares are similar to the Tube – and you get a better view. Under 5s travel free, and family/day passes can save you money if you’re doing more than one trip.

Is it good for a rainy day?

Yes – comfy indoor cabins with massive windows mean you can stay cosy and still soak up the scenery.

Where’s the best place for a selfie?

At the back on the open-air deck – snap a shot as you pass Tower Bridge or the Shard. Wind-swept hair optional.

Is it buggy and wheelchair friendly?

Yes – wide ramps, easy boarding, space inside, and friendly staff who are always happy to help. Ideal for families with little ones or mobility needs.

Are there snacks on board?

Most boats have small cafés for coffee, crisps and sweet treats. Or bring your own – it’s London’s most scenic picnic.

How do we get there or combine it with other transport?

All piers are well connected to buses, Tubes and trains. Many families ride the boat one way, then hop on the train home – it’s a great way to break up the day.
