About Up at the O2

Discover stunning views of London with Up at The O2. Experience the thrill of climbing the world famous roof of The O2 and take in panoramic views over London’s most iconic skyline at the summit, 52 metres above ground level.

At The O2 the action doesn’t just happen on stage, it also happens on the roof. Zip up your jacket. Lace up your climb shoes. Hook up your harness and make your way up to the south face of one of the most striking buildings in London’s skyline. All climbs are led by expert guides, and with its highest point standing at 52m, you will have uninterrupted 360° views of Greenwich, the Olympic Park, and Canary Wharf.

Top tip from the KidRated team:

Bring your phone – the views from the top are phenomenal and photo stops are built into the climb. And if it’s raining? Bonus drama in your selfies.

Is there an age limit?

Yep, climbers must be 8 or over, and at least 1.2 metres tall. No exceptions, even if they’re very persuasive.

Are there size or weight restrictions?

There are a few: max weight is 130kg, waist under 125cm, and thigh under 74cm. If you’re not sure, it’s best to check ahead – no one wants a surprise at basecamp.

Can kids go up without an adult?

Nope, climbers under 18 need an adult with them (1 adult per 5 kids). Teen independence will have to wait just a little longer.

Do I need to be super fit for the climb?

Not really, but you do need a basic level of fitness. If you can handle a few flights of stairs without turning into a tomato, you’ll be fine.

Is it accessible for wheelchairs?

They do run a small number of private wheelchair climbs each year, but these must be booked in advance. Otherwise, sadly wheelchair users are not able to climb.

Will it be cancelled in bad weather?

Highly unlikely. Rain, wind or shine, the climb goes ahead. Only extreme conditions (think lightning, not drizzle) stop play, so pack a waterproof just in case.

Can we take photos?

Absolutely, and you’ll want to. Bring your phone or camera, or grab one of the official souvenir pics at the top for proper “fridge magnet” memories.

What should we wear?

You’ll be given climbing shoes, but bring socks – they’re essential. And wear comfy, weather-appropriate clothes. Don’t forget your socks! No socks, no play… unless you fancy buying a pair on the spot.

What if we get wet?

There’s a basic changing area at basecamp, so you can swap soggy clothes for something dry.

Is there anywhere to eat afterwards?

Loads. The O2 is packed with restaurants and cafés, so whether you’re craving fast food or a full-on feast, you’ll find something to suit your post-climb hunger.

How safe is it?

Very safe. You’ll be fully harnessed, briefed, and guided all the way by trained professionals using top-notch kit. Safety first, thrills second.

How long does it take?

About 90 minutes in total – that includes getting kitted up, a safety briefing, the climb, enjoying the views at the top, and heading back down. Arrive 15 minutes early to check in – if you’re late, you miss the climb. And that would be a proper sad-face moment.
