About Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum

Whether your kid dreams of Centre Court glory or just wants to press buttons and try on tennis whites, the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum is a surprisingly ace family day out.

You’ll walk through the history of the world’s most famous tennis tournament (with bonus Wimbledon fashion through the ages – yes, even the tiny shorts). There’s interactive exhibits, holograms, and enough techy bits to keep gadget-loving kids happily distracted while you get misty-eyed over vintage rackets and wooden scoreboards.

The real winner? The virtual reality tour, where you can pretend you’re standing on Centre Court without having to swing a racket or break a sweat. Kids can try out games, peep behind the scenes, and marvel at the actual trophies – no cardboard cut-outs here!

It’s best for kids aged 6+ and makes for a smashing rainy day option. Whether you’re raising the next Emma Raducanu or just fancy an afternoon of tennis-y fun, Wimbledon serves up a proper family-friendly win.

Top tip from the KidRated Tip:

Don’t skip the VR experience – standing on Centre Court (virtually!) is a proper wow moment, especially for kids who’ve only seen it on telly.

Do we need to like tennis?

Nope. Even if your backhand’s more biscuit-eating than backspin, there’s loads to enjoy – from interactive screens to funky outfits and fun games.

Is it good for younger kids?

Best for ages 6 and up. Little ones might get a bit restless unless they’re seriously into rackets – but the techy bits and dress-up zones help!

How much does it cost?

Not free, but not Wimbledon-ticket expensive either. Family tickets are available, and it’s worth checking online for offers or combo deals with tours.

What’s this VR Centre Court thing?

It’s a virtual reality experience that plonks you right in the middle of Centre Court. You can look around, soak in the atmosphere, and pretend you’re about to serve for match point (minus the sweat and pressure).

Can we visit Centre Court for real?

Yes. There are guided tours available (book ahead). You’ll see the press room, players’ entrance and more – it’s very cool, even for non-tennis fans.

Is there food nearby?

The museum café is light on options, but you’re close to some great Wimbledon Village spots. Or bring snacks for a DIY picnic moment.

Is it a good rainy day option?

Yes – everything’s indoors, so no worries if the British summer does what it usually does.

How long will we spend there?

2–3 hours should do it.

Is it accessible?

Very, including lifts and wide spaces.

Are there Guided tours?

Yep – and they do them in eight different languages.
