When the sun’s out in London, there’s only one thing on everyone’s mind – ice cream.

Whether you’re planning a summer day out, hunting for the best dessert places in London, or just looking for a quick sweet treat, these ice cream parlours are well worth a visit. Udderlicious
I might be slightly biased because Udderlicious is my local, (ice cream parlours are like pubs, they’re always going to be better if they’re closer), but it serves some of the best ice cream I’ve had in London. The flavours are exciting and there is a new flavour chosen by the public every month, so there’s always an excuse to revisit.

Chin Chin Labs
For people who like their ice cream with an extra splash of science. Chin Chin Labs, in the heart of Camden Market, is like Heston Blumenthal on a budget and with edible flavours. The ice cream is frozen with liquid nitrogen in front of your very eyes. Order a brownwich (an ice cream and brownie sandwich) then take a stroll down the canal towards London Zoo and Primrose Hill. Could you have a more idyllic summer afternoon?

Amorino
If Chin Chin Labs is for science-y people, Amorino is for people who like their food to be pretty. Order whatever flavours you want and you’ll be presented with a cone that looks more like a rose than an ice-cream: perfect instagram fodder for teens.
Soho / Islington / Chelsea / Covent Garden / Charing Cross / Westfield / Stratford
Gelupo
I won’t judge you too much if you prefer to call it gelato but I will point you in the direction of Soho where you will find two branches of Gelupo. Some flavours are a little wacky, so adventurous kids will have a field day. Blood orange stracciatella and Bacio are worth tasting, but maybe not together.

Oddono’s South Kensington
Oddono’s is a London institution when it comes to authentic Italian gelato, with its first shop opening in South Kensington back in 2004. Inspired by his grandmother’s traditional recipes, Christian Oddono has crafted a gelato experience that’s hard to beat, blending the finest ingredients like Sicilian pistachios and Madagascan vanilla into rich, creamy perfection. From classic flavours like chocolate and pistachio to adventurous ones like vodka lemon and chocolate-chili (maybe not for the kids!), Oddono’s offers something for every palate, including vegan and no-sugar-added options. And if you’re lucky enough to dodge the unpredictable London weather, their Stoke Newington location (just one of their seven venues) even offers ample indoor seating for a cosy gelato indulgence.

SNOG on the Southbank
SNOG is frozen yoghurt and as an ice cream purist, I was somewhat reluctant to include it in my list. However, if you find yourself on Southbank this summer and fancy a sweet cold snack, the bright pink bus is hard to miss. Plus, with loads of flavours and toppings to choose from, and seating on the top deck, it’s ideal for kids.

Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream
Founded by second-generation Filipino Londoners Omar Shah and Mae Maglanoc, Mamasons brings a vibrant taste of the Philippines to sweet-toothed Londoners. Known for their unique Filipino-inspired ice creams, Mamasons serves up intriguing flavours like black coconut and the Instagram-worthy ube (a purple yam). The real showstopper is their signature ‘Bilog’ – a toasted Filipino milk bun filled with pink ice cream and dusted with icing sugar, guaranteed to make a teen’s insta feed pop. If that’s not enough, their menu also includes ube hot cocoa made with Belgian white chocolate and authentic Filipino coffee, making it a sweet escape for any dessert lover.
Expect an interior that’s all about pink and tropical vibes, complete with plenty of foliage, neon lights, and rotating artworks from Filipino communities. Oh and don’t worry about the term “dirty” – that’s how street food is referred to by the locals!
Fortnum & Mason
So you want a truly English experience? Something a little decadent and fit for royalty? There’s only one thing to have: a Fortnum & Mason Knickerbocker Glory. The sundae of dreams is the kind of ice cream kids remember forever. On a side note, Fortnums are also great at giving free samples so if you’re not entirely convinced that an ice cream can be worth £12 you can at least try before you buy.
Piccadilly
At the end of the day, if you find yourself in a park on a sunny day and hear the twinkling tune of an ice cream van coming round the corner, nothing can beat a 99 Flake.
