The Day I Met Freya Skye
By Molly (age 12)
Introduction
When 12-year-old Molly tried to get tickets to Freya Skye’s first ever UK show at Hoxton Hall, she thought it was game over before it had even begun. But what followed was a rollercoaster of tears, VIP passes, friendship bracelets, acoustic songs, and the kind of moment most kids only dream about!
Here’s Molly’s first-hand account of meeting Freya in London, complete with concert review, signed merch, a surprise Q&A moment, and the best dad comeback of all time.

The Ticket Drama – Trying to Get Freya Skye Tickets at Hoxton Hall
At exactly 10 o’clock on the day the tickets went on sale there were about 12 adults trying to get tickets for Freya Skye’s first ever UK show – my parents and friends we asked to help. We knew tickets would sell fast as it was a tiny venue (Hoxton Hall in north London) and it was described as an ‘acoustic show’ which meant just her and maybe a guitar.
And 10 seconds later I was in tears. No one managed to get a ticket. Not one.
I’d been crying for about 20 minutes and then something amazing happened. ‘This is odd’, said my father coming back into the room. ‘I went back on the ticket site and managed to get 2 tickets’.
I screamed with joy. ‘That’s amazing! Yay!!’ But that wasn’t even it. He also somehow managed to get a VIP ticket for me to actually meet Freya Skye!
All I had to do now was wait. The show was in 3 months’ time but even then I had trouble sleeping because all I could think about was Freya Skye.
Those three months passed really quickly and then, all of a sudden, it was time…
VIP Meet and Greet – Finally Meeting Freya Skye in Person
I was able to leave school a bit early and rushed home to start getting ready (even though I’d had my outfit planned for three months). I’d also made a little book illustrating what she’s accomplished. And – obviously – I made a friendship bracelet to give her with the letters of one of her new songs on it, ‘Golden Boy’.
Just an hour later I was standing in the pouring rain with the other VIPs waiting to go into Hoxton Hall. It took ages and I started to think we wouldn’t get in. But then the doors openedand my heart was beating uncontrollably.

First, I was given a ticket and a lanyard ACTUALLY SIGNED BY FREYA. Then we got some merch – a tote bag and a t-shirt (specially designed just for this show). Then, more waiting…
All I could hear was girls about the same age as me crying and screaming as we all waited to meet Freya. I peeked round the corner into the hall and I could see a screen in the middle of the floor and a shadow – IT WAS FREYA SKYE’S SHADOW!!!
It felt like about 5 hours of waiting (it was probably half an hour) and finally I was called forward. My body was shaking. I couldn’t believe that the girl I’d been watching and listening every day for months – even years – was just there, around the corner.
Then – in the most surreal moment of my life – suddenly she was hugging me and talking to me.
Friendship Bracelets, Signed Merch and the Big Hug
I didn’t believe it was her, it just didn’t feel real.
But I managed to give her my bracelet (which she immediately put on) and her book which she loved and said she was so grateful for. Then, photo time. I’d been planning out my pose for ages. I asked her if she wouldn’t mind doing a ‘half a heart’ shape with her hands with me and she said‘absolutely yes please!’. I said thank you, had a photo taken and went back into the hall for the Q&A.
The VIPs waited in front of the stage and Freya came out and sat down, cross-legged, and picked out only 5 names and questions from a bowl. To my utter shock, she said ‘Erm, Molly M?’ I just wasn’t ready and blurted out, ‘Er, oh yeah’ which everyone found really funny.
Then – finally – it was showtime.
The Acoustic Show: Freya Skye Live in London
The lights went down. Screaming started as we thought it was her coming on stage but it was her guitarist, Donnie, whostarted playing ‘Can’t Fake It’ and then, there she was, just a few feet from me on the stage.
She did all my favourite songs – and even a few brand newones, never played live before – and I was screaming every word. She even pointed to me at one moment on her last song, ‘Gold’s Gone’.
Suddenly it was all over, far too quickly. We got loads of photos as the hall emptied out – me in front of the stage, her guitar and we even managed to get the setlist.
My First Ever Gig – Why This Concert Meant So Much
I didn’t want it to be over so I pleaded with my parents to wait outside just in case she came out at the end.
Everyone left – and I mean everyone (even the staff of the hall) – but about an hour and a half later, with only just a few people left, I heard a noise from inside. It was her!
I couldn’t believe it. I was meeting her again! I said thank you for the show and asked her to sign the setlist and my t-shirt. She did, said goodbye and thanked me for coming and disappeared off in a waiting black limo.

It was the first live gig I’ve ever been to and will almost certainly be the best and still, to this day, all of it felt like a dream.
It’s also proof that sometimes dads really can be useful.
