Celebrity Best Days Out – Eddie Kadi

If you want a celebrity who genuinely gets family days out – the chaos, the laughs, the snacks, the “are we there yet?” bits – Eddie Kadi is your man. The British-Congolese comedian, presenter and proud dad is best known as the voice of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Official Afrobeats Chart Show (every Sunday at 3pm), a regular face on TV panel shows, and a regular MOBO Awards host. He’s also one half of the much-loved Man Like You podcast alongside Mo Gilligan and Babatunde Aléshé – which tells you everything you need to know about his humour and warmth.

You may have seen Eddie bringing the good vibes (and plenty of heart) to Strictly Come Dancing, holding his own on Sorry I Didn’t Know, or heading into the jungle for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – something he said yes to instantly because he wanted to make his daughter proud. That dad-first energy runs through everything he does.

When it comes to days out, Eddie is refreshingly old-school and joy-led, which means his Best Days Out are about connection, curiosity and making memories – the kind parents actually want to plan.

Currently I’m still hosting the afrobeats chartshow on BBC Radio 1Xtra every Sunday at 3pm, will be hosting the MOBO awards soon and have a great podcast with Mo Gilligan and Babatunde Aleshe.

What were your favourite places to visit in London as a kid and why?

As a kid…Madame Tussauds – especially The Planetarium that was there and closed in 2006. I also loved Chessington Zoo and the Science Museum! They were all fun for so many different reasons

And where do you like to take your family now you’re a parent?

I love a trip to the museum with my daughter and nephews. She loves the London Transport Museum, a trip to the cinema is always amazing, also The London Eye is always a good shout.

Where is your favourite place to eat with the family?

I’m a great fan of Nandos especially with the family – it’s relaxing and something there for everyone! The music is great too!

Where in London (or the UK) would you recommend to another family?

I would recommend a nice drive down south to Brighton or Bournemouth. Find a good sunny day and enjoy the seafront. It’s worth it.

What would be your perfect day out with your family?

My perfect London day out will be a nice drive to Central London. Go to Hyde Park, lil one loves watching the ducks, get on the mini boats if it’s a good day, take a walk to Oxford street grab some waffles. Then get on the train to Green Park and enjoy Buckingham Palace before going to Leicester Square and catch a movie.

Bus, tube, taxi, walk or cycle?

I take everything. The bus in Central London is a great tour guide honestly. Also, if you ever get a chance, jump on a bike and take a ride through Hyde Park! And make use of the tube – you will save sooo much time seeing the City!

Recently though, I’ve become really good with just walking through London. You get to see so much more.
