Paddington Film Too Explicit For Young Kids?

Published: 20th November 2014

Paddington upsets the sensors BBFC

The new Paddington Bear film is set for release next Friday, but with less than two weeks to go before our favourite bear is trotting across the silver screen, he’s in trouble with the censors.

On Monday the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) – who provide the ratings advice for films in the UK – have changed their guidance for the beloved critter.

Paddington (to be voiced by Ben Whishaw) has had its U (suitable for all) classification changed to PG (parental guidance) following concerns over what the BBFC have called “dangerous behaviour, mild threat, innuendo, [and] infrequent mild bad language.”

The scenes in question shows Hugh Bonneville’s character dressed as a woman being flirted with by a security guard and a single (mumbled) use of the word ‘bloody.’

Michel Bond (Paddington’s creator) has said that he’s “very upset” with the BBFC’s decision.

The film hits cinemas on 28th November across the UK.
