Magna Cartas Reunited

Published: 5th February 2015

Magna Carta British Library News Runnymede

For the first time in history, all four original copies of the Magna Carta will be found in the same place: the British Library. This reunion is to celebrate 800 years since bad King John signed the document at Runnymede.

Unfortunately, out of the 40,000 people who entered,  the 1215 (like the year it was written, clever!) winners of the ballot to see all four copies together have been announced. However, you do have the chance to see all copies throughout the UK this year. Two will remain at the British Library, while the others will be found at Salisbury Cathedral and Lincoln City Cathedral.

Alternatively why not visit Runnymede where 800 years ago the document was signed under a Yew Tree. It’s close by to Windsor so you could always combine a picnic there with a trip to Windsor Castle or Legoland.

The British Library’s Magna Carta: Law, Liberty, Legacy exhibition will start on Friday 13th March. You can book tickets now and it’s FREE for under 18s.
