Poppies Cause Chaos

Published: 2nd November 2014

Despite being warned to stay away until after half-term, massive crowds have flocked to see the Tower of London Poppies installation, causing Tower Hill tube to be closed on several occasions due to over crowding.

Tower of London poppies 9Hundreds lined the perimeter of the famous tower’s moat on this weekend to catch a glimpse of the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red exhibition.

Each ceramic poppy commemorates a British and colonial death during World War One.

Sightseers making their way to the poppies were also warned to expect delays because of the closure of Tower Hill station for engineering works.

The Tower of London said Saturday was one of the busiest days so far but staff were coping with the crowds.

The first of the 888,246 ceramic poppies was planted in the Tower’s dry moat in July, with the final one due to be installed on Armistice Day. We of course have a great review from Issy which you can see here and our regular report about the Tower is here
