Restaurant Fish Becomes Tourist Attraction

Published: 16th October 2014

The London Aquarium has a new resident when a fish outgrew his tank in the middle of a restaurant floor. Bob the Giant Gourami, thought to be 12-14 years old, was being kept at Bengal Village, a curry restaurant in Lingfield, Surrey.

Despite being fed a diet of vegetables, the Gourami just kept on growing, forcing his owners to build a special tank for him in the middle of the restaurant floor. But he continued to grow to a length of two feet – far too large for the small hole they had constructed which measured 3ft by 4ft 5in.

The RSPCA came to the rescue. With their expertise and using special equipment, Bob was transported to the London Aquarium. He has since settled into his new home, and apparently enjoys spreading his fins for visitors to see, although, as he is a fish, this cannot be verified.

Shahjaham Jahan, co-owner of the family restaurant, said he was sad to wave goodbye to the fish, popular with customers, but is glad Bob is comfortable in his new home.
