Walkie Talkie Garden – not such a walk in the park

Published: 12th January 2015

Controversial gardens seem to be a bit of a fashion in London at the moment, the Garden Bridge was given the go ahead at the end of last year amid a lot of criticism and now, the Walkie Talkie garden is in the firing line. The Garden, which opened last week, has been described by one of its first visitors as looking a bit more like Centre Parcs than an actual park.

The Walkie Talkie building is a major part of the London sky line

The Walkie Talkie Garden is the highest roof garden in London.  It is located on the 35th-37th floors of the 155 metre building, which is pretty high! Even though it is free to access but a 90 minute slot must be booked way in advance and you must bring photo ID. Some have argued that this goes against the concept of a park.

Once up there you can experience 360 degree views of London, however some people have expressed disappointment at the lack of grass. You won’t find kids playing an impromptu game of football here, that’s for sure.

If you want to bring a picnic or a frisbee, we’d recommend sticking to the traditional parks like Hyde Park or Hampstead Heath. But if exotic plants, restaurants serving caviar and views are more your thing then you won’t find a better place. To book click here to go to their website. If you do go, be sure to let us know what you think.
