The BBC has announced that it will launch a new initiative to address the dearth of creative digital skills in the UK. Reflecting, the 1980s initiative, BBC Micro which helped the Britain feel at ease with the first wave of personal computed, the initiative will focus on inspiring a younger generation to learn to code.

Make it Digital will give every child in year seven a coding device, called Mirco Bit. This will amount to one million coding devices in total. Lucky kids!

Measures will also include partnerships with 50 important tech companies such a Google. The BBC will create 5,000 traineeships across the corporation. It will be the largest of its kind and will be for unemployed young people. The opportunities given in this traineeship are expected to be life changing to many.

The BBC will be broadcasting programmes and online activity to engage and inspire digital creativity using some of their best loved brands, such as Doctor Who, Eastenders and Radio 1. Furthermore, there will be new programmes on BBC Two. One will be based on Grand Theft Auto and another will be about one of KidRated’s favourite attractions, Bletchley Park.

We reckon Make it Digital is going to be pretty exciting and we’re very jealous of all the eleven year olds who will be able to get their hands on some exciting tech!
